How much money do most college artists earn?
For those of you wondering whether or not a college degree is worth the investment…
I put together the following list, which shows average wages from various college majors in 2009, based on US Census Bureau data from bachelor’s degree-holding individuals:
Major: average annual wages
Art History and Criticism: $50k
Film, Video, and Photographic Arts: $46k
Commercial arts and graphic design fine arts: $45k
Art education: $42k
Studio arts, visual arts general: $40k
Business general (arts management?): $50k
Source: “What’s It Worth? The Economic Value of College Majors” from Georgetown University’s Center on Education and the Workforce which used data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2009 American Community Survey and consider full-time, full-year workers ages 25 to 64 whose highest degree is a bachelor’s. Some majors are not included because the sample size was too small to calculate a median income.
