Abstractions, pendulum paintings, and other natural processes resulting in paintings; a play on Pynchon’s famous book. These large paintings were created by placing paint inside a swinging pendulum, altering the paint’s viscosity, the distance the paint fell, and the speed of rotation and deceleration of the pendulum to create differing Lissajous figures, splats, and dot patterns. Paintings were toned and glazed with oils, to create subtler color transitions. I made these from 1989-91.
